Future Soul Records introduces Joy Jones with "Godchild"

SEATTLE's FUTURE SOUL RECORDS INTRODUCES AMERICAN SOUL CHANTEUSE JOY JONES

Once again, the US-UK underground Soul scenes converge to birth yet another true Soul artist with the release of the debut full-length effort, "Godchild," from Joy Jones. Fresh new independent imprint, Future Soul Records, impresses with just their first year's worth of releases, including Jones' album, as well as a string of singles and heavy remixes from a prestigious library of producers such as Daz-I-Kue, Jeremy Ellis aka Ayro, John Arnold, Andrea Clarke, Bread and Ty. Future Soul is headed up by Seattle's SunTzuSound collective co-founder, Michael "Mikey" Greenleaf, and West London - Atlanta transplant, Daz-I-Kue, making for an American East Coast vs West Coast power-move with some healthy British flavor.

Officially launching in May of 2008 and originally limited to a set number of 12"s that were quietly distributed earlier this year, the label's first release came in the form of a stellar cover of Barney "Blair" Perry's disco anthem, "Nightlife," from the dynamic Detroit duo, John Arnold & Jeremy Ellis (Ubiquity, Transmat, Planet E), and to great review from DJs and listeners alike, including high kudos from the highly-esteemed Radio1 tastemaker, Gilles Peterson.

Currently the label is pleased to announce the recent release of the soon-to-be neo-Soul classic, "Godchild," the twelve-track debut album from Los Angeles-based signer/songwriter, Joy Jones, and co-producer, Daz-I-Kue. This beautiful full-length album has been steadily gathering its own buzz since its initial street date on July 7th, not to mention, for all of you hot on the Boogie tip, the anticipation of the the label's third release with Daz-I-Kue's "In the Middle," featuring vocals from the lovely Joy Jones and backing instrumentation and vocals from John Arnold & Jeremy Ellis.

Joy Jones

Now an honorary "ladybug," Jones met Daz-I-Kue of the famed Bugz in the Attic crew while living in London a few years ago and working with the artist Breis. Speaking on the importance of working with Daz and how it has greatly influenced her career, Jones says, "Daz believed in me, and encouraged me to really cultivate my craft and create a full project. I highly respect his ear and opinion.” Growing up, Joy Jones sang in church and later nurtured an interest in spoken word and song writing. After graduating, she moved to London and was moved by the fact so many people were making a living from their creativity. Today’s life in LA also offers inspiration to Joy who sees the city as "a city of possibility, an alchemist’s paradise of sorts, filled with people who arrive with nothing but dreams and hope; many of which are able to make something of themselves and leave their cultural imprint. I appreciate that about where I live, as well as the fact that so many things are accessible here.” However, many other places have also had an effect on Joy… “I draw most of my inspiration from traveling. I get stir-crazy every three months and I need to go somewhere different! That is where I gain perspective on life and how I fit into the world.”

For the Future Soul Records label, Joy Jones is presenting fans with a thought-provoking album, which covers some meaningful themes and a mixture of sound styles. Joy hopes that listeners will be touched by its messages and themes; “I have spent quite a bit of time thinking about what I want to say and the messages I want to put out. This is a labor of love and I hope that it translates and transforms into a tool for change. This journey to LP has largely been due to divine choreography, fabulous blessings and good folks. I am constantly amazed at the trajectory.”

Afrobeat lullabies, future jazz/soul protest songs and electronic hymns all meld on "Godchild" to shape an honest tale – expect all of this and more from the lovely Ms. Joy Jones and be prepared to have your ears and mind opened to new experiences!
