The Fresh Ball feat. Maimouna Youssef and Large Professor

Celebrating 17 years of service to Hip-Hop artists, scholars, and communities worldwide.

Our second annual Fresh Ball will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the Decatur House, an historic house museum located in the heart of our nation’s capital. This year the Ball will feature:

The Reminders

Maimouna Youssef

and Large Professor

The Fresh Ball brings together diverse advocates in the arts, education and nonprofit communities for an evening of global cuisine, Hip-Hop karaoke, and energetic live performances. Proceeds benefit the 501(c)3 nonprofit Words Beats & Life, one of the longest running community groups dedicated to preserving and sharing Hip-Hop culture with youth and adults.
The penultimate event in our first ever 10-day citywide Hip-Hop festival, the Fresh Ball helps to support the international exchange of ideas rooted in Hip-Hop, as well as the transfer of that knowledge to the widest possible audience through innovative programs, events, scholarship, teaching, and convening.
More than 50% of your ticket price will go to bringing world class production equipment and technology to our newly renovated Institute of Hip-Hop in Columbia Heights. There, we will host classes, events, and other gatherings for curious learners of all ages to promote Hip-Hop elements–Graffiti, DJ’ing, MC’ing–and to provide space for other multidisciplinary knowledge sharing across generational divides as this nearly 45 year-old Hip-Hop culture evolves.
What to expect at the 2018 Fresh Ball:
Live performances + hands-on hip-hop workshops
A seated dinner with drink tickets or open bar depending on ticket purchased
Swag bags for the first 100 people ot arrive
An exhibition of 20 original graffiti pieces + silent auction
Hip-Hop karaoke + photo opportunities in your freshest attire
If you’re planning to come with a group of 5 or more, consider reserving one of our 10 personal tables — an opportunity to get close to the action and energy on stage! Half (5-person) and Full (10-person) Tables are available for advance purchase and will also include early entry to the event.
Enjoy food inspired by this year’s Hip-Hop cultural exchange destinations in China, France, and Brazil, or stop by the auction to win a “staycation” at the city’s hottest hotel, among other highly sought-after items from our generous donors.
The evening’s program also features live entertainment and awards honoring those whose contributions often go unsung with DJs spinning all of your favorite Golden Era and current tracks all night long.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for Personal Tables. Main event entry begins at 8:00 p.m.
Thank you to our fresh 2018 Host Committe for being the life of the party:
