The 20th Annual San Francisco Electronic Music Festival presents electronic noise composer John Weise, contemporary ritual creator and community healer Dohee Lee, cinematic soundscape synthesis composer Marc Kate in concert at the Brava Theater.
John Wiese is an experimental – electronic noise composer and visual artist from Los Angeles, California. Wiese has performed at major international festivals and toured extensively both as a solo artist and as a member of multiple groups including LHD, Bastard Noise, Sunn O))), and Sissy Spacek.Wiese is a prolific musician, having released over 100 7-inches on various international labels including his own imprint, Helicopter.
Dohee Lee is a Korean American performance artist, musician, ritualist and educator who was born on Jeju Island in South Korea. Dohee Lee is A creative visionary trained at the master level in traditional Korean music, singing, drumming and dance which is rooted in Korean Shamanism. Since her arrival in the US she has been a vital contributor to both the traditional and contemporary arts landscapes of the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
Marc Kate applies cinematic and conceptual approaches to music and audio production. He creates a slow, immersive, drifting counterpoint to the speed and greed of the tech culture assault on San Francisco (and the world). Performing and composing from San Francisco to Berlin, he has created music for choreographers, filmmakers and SFMOMA’s audio tour.
The San Francisco Electronic Music Festival is an artist-run organization founded in 1999 by eight local sound artists and musicians. Since the first festival in 2000, SFEMF has presented works that span the sonic spectra from ambient to rhythmic and atonal to melodic by participants ranging from new and emerging young artists to respected pioneers of the electronic music field.
