Recap: LACMA x Murs Through The Mic

On May 17th,  goes down in history, as notable underground hip hop group, 3MG (Murs, Eligh and Scarub), reunited to kick off LACMA‘s first-ever hip hop concert series called Through The Mic – Powered by Cashmere Agency and Guerilla Union. Co-curated by Murs, the sold out show was framed in front of Chris Burden‘s iconic “Urban Lights” sculpture.

The night was live, as 3MG had the crowd jumping and singing along to every song.  Murs, Eligh and Scarub took turns doing solos and ended the performance with all of them on stage for the amazing reuniting of the group.  The highlight of the night was Murs’ tribute to Eazy-E and West coast hip hop by rapping “Boyz-N-The-Hood”, in which he had the whole crowd rapping every single word.

Through The Mic will occur every third Thursday of the month from now until October 2012.  The series continues on June 21, with a performance by Dumbfoundead with Medusa and Gizzle. Concert-goers will also have late night, private access to the contemporary art galleries after each performance finishes.  For more information and tickets, please go here.
