DEMF Detroit Review

MOVEMENT ’07 : On the Funkier Side of Things…

Detroit saw both record high temperatures and thousands of out-of-town guests this past holiday weekend for the 8th time for a little thing called the Detroit Electronic Music Festival aka MOVEMENT. As Fusicology’s founders have been there since its inception in 2000 to witness its evolution, we are here once again to fill you in on what you may have missed if you didn’t make it to the D this year…

2007 found us having a true Motown experience this year more so than previous years, due to more time spent at off-site events that we simply could not resist. Visiting weeklies full of Detroit’s best musicians in big band jam sessions, everyday venues with pulsing beats of classic ’80s House music, throw-back Hip Hop tributes, and legendary underground galleries playing sweatbox to a slew of delirious dancers just about sums-up our long weekend – oh, and this crazy skating party with some kinda super-star DJ at a community roller rink in the neighborhood?

Kenny Dixon Jr. definitely saved the day this year and really laid it out, both on-site and off-site; while soldiers Rick Wilhite and Mike Clark, crews in tow, keep House alive; ‘Shoes, Dez, and Tony Tone taught us a lesson in Detroit Hip Hop; and the freestyle versatility kings of the next generation, John Arnold & Jeremy Ellis, move things in the funky forward direction… thank God.

Stay tuned later this week for our photo wrap-up!
