Yancey Boys Advance J Dilla’s Legacy With Release Of “The Fisherman” on Delicious Vinyl / Yancey Media Group

Delicious Vinyl proudly debuts a teaser from the forthcoming Yancey Boys LP Sunset Blvd., “The Fisherman”.

Yancey Boys are John “Illa J” Yancey and Frank Nitt. The new LP (due Sept. 17) is built around previously unheard tracks created by Illa J’s brother — the late, great J Dilla (James Yancey).

As anticipation builds for the first official single “Quicksand” (w/ Common & Dezi Paige), its b-side comes first. “The Fisherman” is a full-court press featuring a chorus from Vice and blistering rhymes from Detroit Serious. With cuts by J.Rocc of Beat Junkies, the track is, as Frank Nitt promises, “guaranteed to make you bang your head!”

Also debuting today is the video for “The Fisherman” directed by Rowe Shot Me, filmed on location in Detroit. For an eye-popping glimpse of rhyme-ready rapscallions taking a trip down the Detroit River in their nifty skiff, peep the clip on YouTube:

With Frank Nitt’s standing as J Dilla Music Catalog Curator and the official approval of Yancey Media Group, “The Fisherman” is officially sanctioned by the Dilla estate.

See Yancey Boys live this fall on the Welcome To Dillaville Tour alongside Detroit legends Slum Village. (Tour dates to follow shortly.) Rooted in history and realized in the present, this is a new chapter in the Yancey legacy.
