A3C Hip-Hop Festival Recruits Jermaine Dupri, 9th Wonder, Young Guru, Killer Mike & more
With the A3C Hip-Hop Festival undergoing such amazing growth in 2012 and 2013, it was only right that the A3C Education Experience grow as well. This year, A3C EDU – presented at the Melia Hotel from October 2-5, 2013 – will offer attendees the opportunity to learn from a variety of artists, producers, journalists, and entertainment industry professionals with a much more interactive and varied platform than in previous years. The EDU Experience will kick off with on Tuesday, October 2, 2013 at 5:00pm with A3C x Tech: a conversation between Grammy Award-winning producer Jermaine Dupri and technology expert James Andrews about the overlap of technology and music over the past decade.
In the three days following the launch event, the A3C EDU experience will offer workshops and panels on a variety of topics including crafting winning proposals (What’s The Scenario, October 5th at 1pm); buzz building the right way (How to Build A Buzz with Dante Ross, October 3rd at 1pm), creating a non-profit initiative or organization (Thrive: An Empowerment Workshop for Hip-Hop Change-Makers, October 5th at 3pm); the importance of the internet for independent artists, presented and curated by Wendy Day; digital distribution in the world of television; music placement in the gaming world, presented by Konsole Kingz; a business crash course for independent artists (Handle Your Business, October 5 at 5pm, and art and tattoos in Hip-Hop culture, curated by Miya Bailey. Also to be presented among the panels will be “Where Do We Go From Here?” – a roundtable discussion on the state of Hip-Hop presented by PNC Radio and The Loud Speakers Network (home of The Combat Jack Show).
This year’s A3C EDU Experience will also incorporate two smaller collections of content. One is A3C x Tech, which, in addition to the opening day conversation with Jermaine Dupri, will also include a conversation with Young Guru – who will chat with A3C Founder Brian Knott about the Evolution of Production from a Music and Event Perspective; and an interview with Talib Kweli – who will discuss the impact technology has had on artist branding. The “xTalk” series will be complimented by other keynote interviews including Grand Hustle/Hustle Gang co-founder Jason Geter’s conversation with journalist Nadine Graham about the impact he has been able to make in the world of film, fashion and music.
The second special presentation will be Growing Up Hip-Hop, an academic symposium led by producer and scholar 9th Wonder discussing Hip-Hop’s role as both a cultural force and a teaching tool. Both Growing Up Hip-Hop and the xTalk series are previews to new modules within the A3C Hip-Hop Festival, which will be presented in full in 2014.
Additionally, the A3C EDU Experience will include live editions of journalist Maurice Garland’s “Beyond The Booth” series, featuring interviews with Pharoahe Monch & DJ Paul; Earwolf.com’s weekly Shots Fired series with journalist Jeff Weiss and MC Nocando; and Jason Rodriguez & Shaheem Reid’s weekly podcast,The BQE with special guests 9th Wonder and Young Guru.
Other A3C EDU panelists and workshop presenters include Wendy Day, DJ Scream, Rahman Dukes, Miya Bailey, Ty Dolla Sign, Roscoe Dash, Combat Jack, David Banner, Killer Mike and executives from Revolt TV, Epic Records, BET, AEG Live, Roc Nation, Select-O-Hits, Universal Records and more.
