FutureType: Brooklyn’s Electro-Soul band releases new EP Darktime on NuFunk Records

When you first listen to FutureType, you’re hit immediately by their danceable grooves. A couple listens in and the layering of the production really pops. Combine that with a mix of avante-funky vocals, hip hop verses, and crisp horn lines, and you’ve got yourself some solidly fresh dance floor material.

FutureType’s latest album, Darktime, is a listen-all-the-way-through gem. It feels influenced by bands like Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem, with a hint of 80’s French disco. The band’s electro-soul sound showcases the talent of producer Miles Felix, singer Chris Bruffee, rapper and saxophonist Dan Cohn, and a crew of many talented American-Canadian musicians filling out the sound. As told by the band, these longtime friends — natives of Los Angeles, Brooklyn, Vermont, Montreal & Toronto — were inspired to create a unique electro-soul funk-fusion sound in the basement studios of Brooklyn. They bridge the gap between dance-inducing DJ-Electronica and the energy of a live band with a full horn section.

Band leader/composer Miles Felix music credits run deep with his work producing tracks for the likes of Method Man, Ty Dolla $ign, Melanie Fiona, Big Boi, Talib Kweli and scoring commercial work for Nike, Google, Cartier, and Vice-TV. FutureType’s musicians aren’t too shabby either having performed with, opened for, and recorded with such artists as Snoop Dogg, Drake, Juvenile, Lil Wayne, GURU’s Jazzamataz, Femi Kuti, Capital Cities, Lee Scratch Perry, Stephen Marley, Medeski Martin & Wood, Antibalas, and more.
