Grammy Award-winning Violinist Miri Ben-Ari Pays Tribute To Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with “Symphony Of Brotherhood”
In honor of Martin Luther King Day, Grammy award-winning violinist, Miri Ben-Ari pays tribute to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr with her hit single “Symphony of Brotherhood”.
My experience taught me how important it is, especially in today’s society, to fight against racism and discrimination and music can deliver the message of social justice in a very powerful way.” “Symphony of Brotherhood” features Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech weaving in and out with Ben-Ari’s unique music production, replacing the R&B lead vocalist with her solo violin and string arrangements fill in as the church choir.
The gorgeous track was the first instrumental single ever to appear on Billboard’s R&B/Hip Hop charts where it spent 12 weeks in the Top 10 peaking at the number 2 position. It went on to become the first instrumental video to air on MTV and VH1 and was also featured in a Viacom commercial for the “Dream Concert” at Radio City Hall in New York City. In 2008 Ben-Ari was invited to perform “Symphony of Brotherhood” at the President House in Jerusalem, Israel and to be honored with the “Martin Luther King Award” by Israeli President, Shimon Peres.
In 2011, Ben-Ari was invited by America’s First Lady, Michelle Obama to the White House for a special performance of this song and to be honored as a “Remarkable Woman”. Miri Ben-Ari, originally from Israel, has a strong connection to the song’s message. Being a third generation to Holocaust survivors, she co-founded “Gedenk”, a not-for-profit organization, dedicated to educate, raise awareness and encourage self-expression among youth about Anti-Semitism, racism and their brutal consequences. This year Ben-Ari has partnered on behalf of “Gedenk” with “Scholastic Arts & Writing to launch the second year of the “Gedenk Award for Tolerance” campaign.
