On November 26th, we’re taking a deep dive into Outkast’s 1996 album ‘ATLiens’, a groundbreaking project that blended Southern hip-hop with experimental production to create a sound that was both futuristic and deeply rooted in the duo’s Atlanta origins. The album combines Jazz, Atmospheric Beats, Heavy Bass Lines, and Futuristic Synths, resulting in a unique sound. Andre 3000 and Big Boi’s distinct flows and intricate lyricism explore themes of alienation, personal growth, and the complexities of fame, making ATLiens a conceptual journey.

‘ATLiens’ not only reshaped the Southern hip-hop scene but also played a pivotal role in the evolution of the genre, cementing OutKast as one of hip-hop’s most innovative acts. Its cosmic aesthetic and experimental approach paved the way for future artists to explore more abstract and diverse sounds, helping to diversify the hip-hop landscape.

Alongside the listening session, we are bringing in the legendary DJ Babu of The Beat Junkies & Dilated Peoples. Babu is known for coining the term “Turntablist” to describe his intricate, soulful DJ style, famous for his beat juggling technique. With multiple World Battle DJ titles and a catalog of iconic mixtapes and productions, Babu’s contributions to hip-hop are second to none. We are very honored to have him spin a set here at the club.
