South African pianist and NEA Jazz Master Abdullah Ibrahim has been a force in global jazz for more than 70 years.

Championed by Duke Ellington, a collaborator with artists from Don Cherry to Max Roach, and a lifelong activist who performed at the presidential inauguration of Nelson Mandela, Ibrahim’s music blends jazz, classical music, and gospel influences with the traditional African music of his Cape Town roots.
