This will be the album release show for Simple Trio’s fourth album (titled “simpletrio2000”), which comes out on Intakt Records in October 2024, as well as a celebration of 10 years of the band’s existence.

Peter Margasak writes the following in the liner notes for the album: Since forming in 2013, few working bands in improvised music have served up such fizzy technical rigor and reflected an adventurous spirit on par with Anna Webber’s Simple Trio. The group, which also includes drummer John Hollenbeck and pianist Matt Mitchell—both accomplished composers and bandleaders in their own right—makes music that’s anything but simple. Yet between the retro time-flipping album title and the inclusion of numerals embedded within track names belies a shared sense of humor and a refusal by the musicians to take themselves too seriously. Despite coming 24 years after the title date, simpletrio2000 nonetheless marks a decade since the combo released its stunning 2014 debut Simple, a simultaneous act of taking stock while boldly continuing to push the music forward.
