Courtney Bryan is a celebrated composer, pianist, and visionary artist known for her innovative blend of classical, jazz, gospel, and experimental music. A native of New Orleans, her compositions draw from the rich musical traditions of her upbringing while embracing contemporary themes of spirituality, social justice, and community. With works commissioned by prestigious ensembles like the New York Philharmonic and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Courtney’s music transcends genres, evoking a deep emotional connection with audiences around the world. She serves as an Associate Professor of Music at Tulane University and was named a United States Artists Fellow in recognition of her groundbreaking contributions to modern music. Bryan is also a 2023 MacArthur Fellow, and currently serves as composer-in-residence with Opera Philadelphia.

Bryan’s work has been presented in a wide range of venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Miller Theatre, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery of Art, Blue Note Jazz Club, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Bryan’s interest across multiple artforms have led to collaborations with visual artists Tiona Nekkia McClodden, Steffani Jemison, Abigail DeVille, Kara Lynch and Ashon Crawley; and musicians Branford Marsalis, Jennifer Koh, Ryan Speedo Green, Helga Davis, Brandee Younger, and Damian Norfleet.
