About Danny Krivit
Growing up in Greenwich Village in the 1960s, Danny was surrounded by music from his jazz singer mother and father, who managed Chet Baker and opened “The Ninth Circle.” There, he met legends like Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, and his home was filled with musical creativity. By 1970, Danny was a vinyl enthusiast and amateur DJ. His career took off after meeting James Brown in 1971, leading him to DJ at The Ninth Circle and later at his father’s club, “Ones.” He connected with influential DJs at The Loft, forming friendships with Larry Levan and Francois K.
In 1979, Danny became the main resident DJ at the Roxy, mixing hip-hop and earning the nickname “Danny Rock.” Throughout the 80s, he played at numerous clubs, often 6-7 nights a week, gaining recognition in trade magazines and receiving airplay on major radio stations, solidifying his legacy in music.
A mainstay of New York nightlife throughout the decades, Krivit currently has a residency at 718 sessions. He also continues to look for vinyl and rare finds, both when he travels and in his neighborhood
