Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Darrian Douglas began his musical journey at the age of 11, studying under esteemed educators such as Dr. Perry Combs, Alvin Fielder, London Branch, and Chad Anderson. In 2008, he moved to New Orleans, where he became the drummer for the Ellis Marsalis Quartet, performing with the group until his departure in December 2012. Throughout his career, Douglas has collaborated with a range of notable artists, including Wynton Marsalis, Victor Goines, Irvin Mayfield, Godwin Louis, Jazzmeia Horn, Joe Temperley, Germaine Bazzle, Jessie McBride, and Topsy Chapman. He has also been a member of trumpeter Bria Skonberg’s band, recording and touring internationally.

In addition to his performance career, Douglas is dedicated to music education, teaching drums at Jazz House Kids and the NJPAC TD Jazz for teens program. Douglass is also the Executive Director of Second Line Arts Collective (SLAC), where he spearheads initiatives that bridge gaps in music education. His leadership at SLAC has fostered programs that blend mentorship, artistic innovation, and community impact, ensuring that jazz and creative music continue to thrive in the modern landscape.
