“The Dirty Dozen: one of the most contagious performances you’ll ever witness. I dare anyone to go to this show and not wind up tapping their feet during the performance. Truly a festive sound and experience.”
ABOUT THIS SHOW
“A national treasure steeped in both the past and the present” (The New York Times), the Dirty Dozen Brass Band celebrates nearly 50 years as the New Orleans institution responsible for the resurgence of the brass band tradition to ring in the new year.
Originally assembled in 1977 and currently led by founding tenor saxophonist Kevin Harris, Dirty Dozen started when public enthusiasm for the New Orleans brass sound was at its lowest point. The lack of expectation (and gigs) freed the ensemble from strict adherence to traditional songs and approaches, and they borrowed freely from the pop music of the day as well as countless other influences.
Tours of the U.S. and Europe made them international stars by the mid 80s and an inspiration to aspiring bands throughout New Orleans and the rest of the world.
After two-dozen albums and collaborations with artists including Dr. John, Branford Marsalis, Dizzy Gillespie, Norah Jones, Elvis Costello, Widespread Panic, and Modest Mouse among many others, and a GRAMMY win for “Stompin’ Ground” — their 2022 collaboration with Aaron Neville — Dirty Dozen remains both the catalyst and standard-bearer of today’s revitalized brass band scene. This New Years performance promises to welcome 2025 with a rollicking party like no other.
