For this edition of Disconic we’ve invited two of the finest midwest-bred selectors of real dance music. First up is Zernell, whose roots lie in the city that birthed house music: Chicago. His Grimy Edits label breathed new life into long forgotten (or just rare as hen’s teeth) disco and funk tunes, many of which now fall under the “buy on sight” rule. Following Zernell will be Marcellus Pittman, who needs little introduction. Hailing from Detroit, Marcellus also heads up his own label, Unirhythm, which showcases his unique and instantly recognizable take on house and techno. His approach to playing records is no different, connecting dots across a broad spectrum of genres effortlessly, reminding us that dance music never needs to be limited to a 4/4 beat.

So forget the old school vs. new school debate. This is true school dance music. There’s few substitutes for experience so let these two veterans show you just how deep the rabbit hole goes.
