EXO-TECH is a New York collective of revolving creative musicians led by multi-disciplinary performer SOPHIA BROUS and New Zealand pop-rnb innovator KIMBRA. Originally created so that a community of musicians could play together in freely-dynamic, unrehearsed song-driven settings, Exo-Tech have gone on to develop a cult following in New York’s creative music scene, drawing in some of the cities’ most revered musicians to participate in mesmerising concerts in-the-round, at venues such as Pioneer Works, Le Poisson Rouge, Red Bull Studios, and most recently, as Public Records’ inaugural live resident ensemble.
As much influenced by modern pop, rnb, jazz and soul, as by free jazz, modern improvisation, no wave, post-punk and film music, EXO-TECH blur the lines between improvisation and song-form composition, creating unrepeatable evenings with audiences of profound musical-chemistry and rhythmic energy.
Reminiscent of the sonic worlds of groups such as Talking Heads, Can, Gang Gang Dance, Plastic Ono Band and Little Dragon, each show features a new line-up of guests in-the-round, with past collaborators including artists such as David Byrne, Caroline Polachek, Sean Lennon, L’Rain, Colin Stetson, Tyondia Braxton, CSpencer Yeh and Amir El-Saffar.
