George Porter Jr., born in New Orleans, Louisiana, is a legendary bassist, songwriter, and singer renowned for his role in shaping the sound of funk music. As a founding member of The Meters, Porter helped pioneer the genre with hits like “Cissy Strut” and “Look-Ka Py Py.” His signature grooves and deeply syncopated bass lines became the foundation of funk, influencing countless musicians across genres. The Meters served as backing musicians for artists such as Dr. John, Lee Dorsey, and Allen Toussaint, further solidifying their place in the fabric of New Orleans music.
Beyond his work with The Meters, Porter has collaborated with a dazzling array of artists, showcasing his versatility.
