Keyboardist Jake Sherman and drummer/producer Abe Rounds — friends who were brought together as members of the legendary Meshell Ndegeocello’s touring band — are, on paper, cool as hell:

  • Both are GRAMMY winners

  • Jake wrote Rosalía’s “Hentai,” played organ on Chance the Rapper’s “No Problem,” and has collaborated closely with Nick Hakim, Bilal, Blood Orange, and Andrew Bird.

  • Abe worked with the late Robbie Robertson on the film score for Martin Scorcese’s Killers of the Flower Moon and played with Joni Mitchell as part of the Joni Jam Band in October at the Hollywood Bowl.

On Friday 12/13 — following the release of their debut record as a duo, Finally! — Jake and Abe are playing a record release show at LA’s Gold Diggers.

On Finally!, Jake and Abe serve a feast of vintage funk-rock riddled with instrumental and production feats. Think Stevie Wonder’s harmonic ingenuity, The Gap Band’s percussive zest, the sleazy groove of Steely Dan, and the yacht-rock breeze of Loggins & Messina chart-toppers, all coming together under lyrics that take oversharing to levels not seen since Pinkerton-era Weezer.
