GARTH TRINIDAD
JEREMY SOLE

This edition of LFS brings back the legendary DJ and KCRW Alumnus Garth Trinidad, who’s “Chocolate City” radio show on KCRW was the sound of LA for years. Last time these two played together the room was packed and the energy was electric, so grab your tickets now.

** A CALL TO ACTION: I’m really trying to grow a particular aspect of culture, and your help is greatly appreciated… If you plan on coming out (or even if you can’t make it) would you do us a solid and post/repost the flyer on your IG page/stories and tag @JEREMYSOLE and @LEFRIQUESONIQUE?

*FOLLOW THE NEW LE FRIQUE SONIQUE IG PAGE,

• Nouveau griot GARTH TRINIDAD is an award-winning radio personality and DJ, artist, and culture critic, credited in part with shaping the modern musical landscape of Los Angeles. Founder of legendary institutions like Chocolate City and Kiss-N-Grind, he is currently on hiatus, traveling, and developing exciting new projects in and outside LA. @garthtrinidad

• LE FRIQUE SONIQUE: Bodies of every shape and shade move together, sweating out the toxins of the day – absolutely all are welcome here and intolerance is not tolerated. Celebrating the bold, untamed styles of every culture and genre worldwide. Sounds from Lagos to Bahia, Brooklyn to Bogota, Detroit to Berlin, Kingston to Chicago, London and beyond.

These LFS events are unique in that THERE IS NO OPENING ACT. Much like going to a movie or a live performance, from 9:30pm until 10pm we gather in the front bar. Then at 10 the doors to the main room open, we all walk in together, Sole plays the first record and we co-create the 4-hour journey together.

JEREMY SOLE (LFS Producer / Host / Resident DJ): Chicago-born L.A. resident Jeremy Sole has been collecting vinyl from around the world for 30 years to craft his own global sound. Sole’s remixes and live DJ sets are soundtracks for the “genre non-conforming”, blending or downright transcending era, style and tempo.

He has had the honor of sharing the stage and/or recording in the studio with hundreds of his inspirations over his career, including Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers, Chaka Khan, Moses Sumney, James Blake and many more. Gilles Peterson named Sole “#2 DJ Of The Year 2011” as well as “Radio Show Of The Year 2014”. Sole was the last DJ to open for both Ray Charles and Gil Scott-Heron on what turned out to be their final concerts. He deejayed for Sly Stone’s birthday party, worked on music for a year with Ms. Lauryn Hill, enlisted Daptone musicians to reimagine a 1976 classic for David Bowie in his final days, and was asked to spin traditional New Orleans funeral dirges atop a giant animatronic octopus with Susan Sarandon, leading a procession of hundreds through Burning Man to bring Timothy Leary’s ashes to the temple. It’s been a hell of a ride.

Sole is most widely known for his weekly KCRW radio show, now in its 16th year, where he helped break many now-major artists with their first radio plays including Black Pumas, Hiatus Kaiyote, Michael Kiwanuka and The Shakes (now Alabama Shakes). He aired the world radio debuts of music for Santana, Chicano Batman, Rhye, Gary Clark Jr, Aaron Frazer, Saul Williams and countless others. Since moving to Los Angeles at the turn of the century, Sole has co-founded three ongoing parties that have developed cult-like followings and mythic reputations – AFRO FUNKÉ (2004-2014): A weekly ritual of Afrobeat and global sound – theLIFT (2010-2017): International DJs at nomadic, afterhours, warehouse events – and now LE FRIQUE SONIQUE.
