About Mach-Hommy
Prolific Haitian-American rapper Mach-Hommy—who keeps his real name unpublished, has only granted a handful of interviews since debuting on the music scene over a decade ago, maintains no social media presence, covers his face with a bandana featuring the Haitian flag, and unleashed a remarkable series of projects in 2017 during a run likened to the mythical outputs of 2Pac in 1996 and MF DOOM in 2004—is stepping into the live arena to present his latest release, #RICHAXXHAITIAN, in the opulent and iconic Appel Room at Lincoln Center, overlooking Columbus Circle and the infamous Columbus Statue,

just in time for Autochthonous Peoples’ Day.

Mach—who established a fund to support social, economic, and technological growth in Haiti with his 2021 classic, Pray for Haiti—views #RICHAXXHAITIAN as a small musical antidote to the political strife that has long plagued his cultural homeland, intensified since the assassination of former president Jovenel Moïse. “Within two months of releasing Pray for Haiti, the president was assassinated by a paramilitary hit squad,” says Mach. “Now we’re talking about a place with no central governing body. Haiti was the world’s first free Black republic, but now it’s in free fall.”

#RICHAXXHAITIAN aims to counter negative perceptions by reframing Haiti’s image—from that of the Western hemisphere’s most impoverished nation to a beacon of creative genius for the nation and its diaspora. Much like his earlier classic HBO (Haitian Body Odor), which transformed a slur against Haitians into a badge of honor, Mach explains, “I’ve always wanted to represent Haiti and the cultural and intellectual richness we’ve shared with the world. From musical styles like kontradans that influenced world music, to our natural resources that fuel important technological advancements, to our philosophers who pioneered Black pride, and to our spiritual leaders who kept the religious traditions of Guinea alive—Ayiti’s legacy is profound.”
