3 Day Event

07:45 PM - 9:00 pm

A new three-part series hosted by New York Theatre Ballet School. Discussions led by museum educator Jane Royal on January 27, February 10, and March 3 at New York Theatre Ballet School, St. Mark’s Church-in-the-Bowery, 131 E. 10th Street in New York City.

Consider artists and works of art through unique and unexpected lenses. Explore connections that are not often addressed in the traditional canon of Art History as well as discuss underrepresented artists from both Western and non-Western cultures. Contemplate the role that the broader society (social, political, econimic, etc.) had in shaping our understanding of these works within the historical periods in which they were created.

January 27: Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera in America.
For nearly four years, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera lived in the United States while he worked on three important mural commissions. Between 1930 and 1934, the two lived, first, in San Francisco, then in Detroit, and finally in New York City.

Join us as we explore this fascinating period in the lives of these renowned Mexican artists.
