Present, immersive, visionary — trumpet player and composer Steven Bernstein has been taking creative risks for more than three decades. His love for the music — and the kinetic act of composing in real time — vitalizes every set. This birthday event celebrates Bernstein’s dynamism, presenting three iterations of his most compelling leader work. Night one features his all-star nonet Millennial Territory Orchestra with Catherine Russell interpreting a collection of songs inspired by Bernstein’s work with Henry Butler and Levon Helm; night two features MTO performing his arrangements of works from Charles Mingus and Bessie Smith as well as The Beatles and The Grateful Dead; and night three features Sexmob playing the music of Duke Ellington and Nino Rota.
