Exactly thirty years ago, the Maria Schneider Orchestra released Evanescence, their debut recording, to great critical acclaim. Subsequently, Schneider and her orchestra went on to produce eight albums with reviews hailing the orchestra and it’s music as: “evocative, majestic, riveting, profound, magical, heart-stoppingly gorgeous, imaginative, revelatory, daring, and beyond categorization.” They have been awarded seven Grammy Awards, numerous DOWNBEAT Awards, Jazz Journalist Awards, and even a Pulitzer nomination.
Schneider’s picturesque music is tailored to feature the extraordinary talents of her eighteen stellar musicians. Thirty years have brought her group to astounding levels of deep listening, synergy, and risk-taking. Their concerts reach the gamut from deeply moving to being simply fun.
While the orchestra has performed at major concert halls and venues across the United States, Europe, Asia and South America, Town Hall is offering New Yorkers a rare treat – experiencing this extraordinary group on a concert stage. This program will highlight Schneider’s favorite music, both recorded and unrecorded, from her long career. The evening promises to uplift, exhilarate, and move you.
Their latest project, Decades, is a 3-LP Box set, newly mastered and exquisitely packaged. In celebration of the evening, Schneider will be selling and signing them after the concert.
