In the spirit of the conscious rap movement of the late 80s and mid-90s, artist-activists and musical disruptors come together on the BAM stage to uplift and celebrate the political force of the art form. Join us as we raise the mic to the revolutionary rhymes and kinetic beats of artists who aren’t afraid to speak truth to power. Long-time co-curator and director Baba Israel hosts Word. Sound. Power. 2025, featuring performances by Brooklyn-born emcee Nejma Nefertiti, percussion virtuoso Okai, and prolific hip-hop activist Sincerity Garcia.
