Blood Sugar X Drops The Dead Dumb Happy Life – Volume 2
Less than two months after its first release in four years, Oakland, California’s Blackball Universe Records is proud to announce the arrival of The Dead Dumb Happy Life – Volume 2 by Blood Sugar X. It is the band’s second installment of 2012.
Alongside band founder and frontman Xavier Dphrepaulezz (lyrics, vocals, keyboard, bass, guitar and drums), The Dead Dumb Happy Life – Volume 2 features performances by Fatlip and Slimkid3 (The Pharcyde), Masa Kohama (guitar), Keenan Ephriam (drums), Cornelius Mims (bass), Yogi Musgrove (bass), Tuesday Gregory (drums) and Jamie Gamble (drums).
The Dead Dumb Happy Life (Vol. 2) will be available for FREE for 30 days starting June 26th on bandcamp.com.
Founded in 2004, Blood Sugar X performed, originally, under the name Blood Sugar. To coincide with the release of their debut album the band hit the road, touring across the U.S. and the United Kingdom, off and on, for the next three years. Their success would land them invitations to play at the world-renowned SXSW music festival in Austin, Texas, and exclusive venues around London.
Having explored a host of genres (punk, funk, soul, pop) on The Dead Dumb Happy Life – Volume1, Blood Sugar X takes a much more hip-hop-inspired approach to the album’s successor.
Fat Lip (Derrick Stewart) and Slimkid3 (Tre Hardson), two founding members of the powerhouse hip-hop group The Pharcyde, joined Blood Sugar X on the track “I’m Sorry.” Dphrepaulezz also pays tribute to legendary Oakland rapper Too $hort with an inventive spin on “Freaky Tales.”
Blackball Universe Records was founded in 2001 by Dphrepaulezz as a vehicle to promote various genres of music including Chocolate Butterfly and Me And This Japanese Guy. As a young, inspired musician, Dphrepaulezz left Oakland to pursue his dreams in Los Angeles. After a less-than-stellar Hollywood experience with major record labels and the industry, a near-fatal car accident inspired Xavier to found his own label. From South Central (in conjunction with Club Bingo), to touring around the world, and now back to his roots in Oakland, Xavier continues to manage Blackball Universe Records as a source for unconventional, popular music.
