EVENT RECAP: Blvd Arts Post, LA

Celebrating Los Angeles’ unique and creative arts culture, The BLVD Hotel + Spa, teamed with The 1881 Project to present BLVD ARTS, a live mural painting competition held this past Saturday at The BLVD Hotel + Spa in Studio City.

Several hundred visitors watched over the weekend as eight local artists created unique 4-by-7-foot murals along the 80-foot wall of BLVD Hotel’s east-side patio. The artists painted their interpretation of Los Angeles landscapes and scenes, using different mediums from projections to pencil sketching to free-hand spray painting in their designs. Collective Aesthetics and Piece Riot, both prominent Los Angeles artist communities, and international arts network Blue Canvas, were present to show support for the event, as well as some of their artists. The lively scene was topped off with live music, beverages from BAR BLVD and mobile gourmet fare from The Flying Pig.

“This event turned out better than ever expected. The art is looking amazing. I am so happy that we were able to create this kind of opportunity for local artists”, says Sagar Kumar, owner of The BLVD Hotel and Spa.

The winning mural will be chosen by public vote at www.1881project.com. Voting closes at 11:59 on October 16th. Everyone who registers and votes will be entered into a raffle for a free iPad 2 as well as a 15% off coupon for a room at The BLVD Hotel + Spa. The winner will be announced at a reception at BLVD Hotel + Spa at a date TBD and will receive the grand prize of $1,500. The finished pieces are displayed on the patio wall adjacent to the hotel and will be accessible through the poolroom.
