Documentarian Offers Unprecedented Guide To Independent Hip-Hop Success With The Support Of Skyzoo, Dj Quik, Black Thought, Talib Kweli and More

The Hip-Hop community will be given new voice and guidance through the release of an exceptional new documentary. Today, REEM Docs is proud to offer the first look at this groundbreaking film, DEMOS: An Independent Artist’s Guide To Success, as the first in a series of events leading up to the film’s May 22, 2013 release.

Two years ago, DEMOS creator and budding documentarian Kareem Fort set out to show the world alternate view of success in Hip-Hop. As COO of HipNott Records, Fort knew first hand that, contrary to popular belief, success as an independent Hip-Hop artists is more than attainable; it happens daily, across the globe, in so many ways.  Fort embarked on a journey to bring new light to not only the countless artists who have found success outside of the major label system, but also to the myriad ways in which they have created that success. The result is unrivaled resource that aims to inspire and educate aspiring Hip-Hop artists with the experiences, advice and proven techniques recounted by an elite group of Hip-Hop legends, successful independent Hip-Hop artists, and industry tastemakers covering the entire span of music culture.

Narrated by critcally aclaimed  artist Skyzoo, DEMOS features interviews with a wide range of artists, from newcomers like Hopsin and Nitty Scott MC to more established indie Hip-Hop veterans like Jean Grae, El Prez, Torae, and Mikkey Halstead, and even the likes of Rapper Big Pooh, Talib Kweli, Freeway and Naughty By Nature, who have seen both sides of the “indie vs. major” debate. In addition to the unique viewpoint provided by the featured artists, DEMOS also draws from the expertise of producers including  NO I.D.!LLMIND, and Needlz as well as a cross-section of  industry execs and journalists, including Fusicology founder Asya Shein.

In the weeks leading up to the official release of DEMOS, which will occur as a simulcast across several digital platforms on May 22, Kareem Fort, Skyzoo and several of the other voices that have contributed to the film will be traveling across the country presenting the movie and engaging audiences in panel and townhall-style discussions about the topics it raises. The first of these screenings is set to occur on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Enzian Theater in Maitland, FL from Noon to 2p.m. EST. The film’s release will also be supported by DEMOS: The Web Series, a ten-week long collection of outtakes and interviews from the film, set to launch in late February.

Both director/creator Kareem Fort and narrator Skyzoo are currently available for interviews to support your coverage of the film.
