Montreal-based alto and soprano saxophonist, composer, and conductor Christine Jensen continues to be a pivotal figure on the international jazz scene. Celebrated for her compelling compositions and skilled improvisations, she is revered as one of Canada’s premier jazz talents. Recently, Jensen won the 2024 Juno Award: Best Jazz Album (Solo) for Day Moon,followed by the summer release of Harbour with her jazz orchestra. Harbour premiered in New York City at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Unity Festival in January, 2025; and is nominated for a Canadian JUNO award as well. Christine and her Quartet will tour the album Day Moon to the summer jazz festivals across Canada in June and July 2025.

Jensen has garnered significant accolades throughout her career, including two prior Juno Awards for her albums Habitat (2014) and Treelines (2011). Her suite Under the Influence also won the Prix Opus for jazz recording of the year in 2017. Alongside her sister, trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, she co-leads Nordic Connect, achieving international acclaim.

Her extensive global engagements have included numerous commissions, guest residencies, and collaborations, underscoring her stature as a leader in jazz education and performance. Jensen has recently transitioned to the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, where she teaches composition, saxophone, and ensembles. Jensen continues her role as the Artistic Director of the Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra. With her ongoing projects and new album release, Christine Jensen remains a central figure in shaping the future of jazz both in Canada and internationally.
