Delfeayo Marsalis & the Uptown Jazz Orchestra: A Birthday Tribute to Roger “The Dirty Old Man” Lewis

Celebrate the birthday of legendary New Orleans baritone saxophonist Roger “The Dirty Old Man” Lewis with Delfeayo Marsalis & the Uptown Jazz Orchestra!

Led by Grammy-winning trombonist, composer, producer, and NEA Jazz Master Delfeayo Marsalis, the Uptown Jazz Orchestra is a powerhouse big band dedicated to keeping the rich traditions of New Orleans and American jazz alive while putting its own unmistakable spin on the music. Founded in 2007, the orchestra brings together a dynamic ensemble of trumpets, trombones, saxophones, rhythm section, and vocalists, combining classic big-band swing with New Orleans brass-band energy, funk, blues, R&B, and spontaneous collective improvisation.

At the heart of the UJO sound is a deep connection to the New Orleans tradition—drawing inspiration from the swinging riff bands of Count Basie, the sophisticated arrangements of Duke Ellington, the adventurous spirit of Charles Mingus, and the dance-driven energy of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.

This special performance honors Roger Lewis, a founding member of the Uptown Jazz Orchestra and one of New Orleans’ most distinctive baritone saxophonists. Expect a high-energy evening of swinging jazz, funk, brass-band grooves, and musical surprises as the UJO celebrates Roger’s remarkable career, contributions to New Orleans music, and birthday.
