The National Museum of African American History and Culture is inviting you to celebrate the first anniversary of the Smithsonian Anthology of Hip-Hop and Rap with a star-studded Hip-Hop Block Party. The event will be held on Saturday, August 13th, featuring performances by local and national talent and including presentations and activities to explore hip-hop origins, elements, and cultural influences.

The block party will feature daytime and evening activities and performances. Radio personality Vic Jagger of Magic 102.3 will host performances on the main stage outside the museum on Madison Drive. There will also be hip-hop dance workshops with the nonprofit dance troupe Culture Shock DC in the museum’s Heritage Hall, as well as a panel discussion featuring some of hip-hop’s formative figures. Performances during the day will include Alphabet Rockers, a DMV Showcase, DJ set by J. Period, and a musical experience by Mumu Fresh. The daytime session will be from 10:30 am – 5:00 pm and the museum will shut down briefly before re-opening for the evening session.

The evening performances will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will include a J. Period live mixtape with special guests, The Halluci Nation presented by the National Museum of the American Indian, and Grammy-nominated rapper D. Smoke. The celebration will conclude with a dance party featuring hip-hop pioneer DJ Spinderella. The evening session will be from 6:00 pm (doors) – midnight.
