City Winery Chicago presents genre-defying chanteuse and authentic independent artist Res live in concert on Monday July 4 at 8 PM. Shareese Ballard, aka Res, is known for her soulful singing voice, masterful mixing of music styles, and collaborations with the likes of Talib Kweli and GZA. Her 2001 debut album, “How I Do,” would effortlessly merge genres such as progressive soul, rock, trip hop, and reggae stylings into a potent sonic gumbo without sounding derivative.

“How I Do” proved to be a complex masterpiece, a work that couldn’t be put into any one box, and which grew in scope and relevance throughout the years. Over time, it has forged a cultural significance and musical currency, the impact of which still resonates with a new generation of artists.

Res’ musical journey has broadened in scope – she continues to produce, record and perform as an artist; is highly sought after as a global DJ/tastemaker; shares her knowledge on the college lecture circuit, being tapped by various universities as a music and cultural expert and and often serves as a moderator/panelist on discourses related to the business of music.
