Okayplayer Launches Caribbean Music & Lifestyle Channel, LargeUp
LargeUp.com, the Caribbean music and lifestyle channel of the Okayplayer network, officially launched recently after more than a year in beta mode. The new look and format reflects its evolution from blog into lifestyle portal–with daily updates capturing the unique sounds, styles, flavors, destinations and activities that define island culture in the Caribbean and abroad.
LargeUp is Music, Style, Sports, Travel, Food, Art, Film, Comedy and Dance and has more than a dozen regular departments, including Mixtape Mondays, The UK-centric Cockney & Yardie and the tasty Ground Provisions series. Here are just a few samples of the exclusive content going up every day:
The latest LargeUp TV exclusive follows dancehall superstar Mavado at NYC’s Fashion Week. Hear dancehall queen Patra’s first new project in years or learn about A Tribe Called Quest‘s Caribbean roots in Jesse Serwer’s Heds & Dreds column.
Get up on trendsetting Caribbean fashion from the haute-spandex of BK boutique Butch Diva to Theophilus London’s blue suede shoes for Cole Haan to the new Mixpak Records tees designed by Jamaican artist Robin Clare.
The heart of the site is LargeUp TV, a platform for original webisodes which bring viewers directly into the Caribbean in a way that only cultural insiders can. Tag along with us as we chop it up with Island Records founder Chris Blackwell about his new venture Blackwell Rum. Go behind the scenes at ?uestlove‘s favorite restaurant, chic Caribbean eatery Miss Lily’s, catch up with globetrotting producer Diplo in Kingston at work on the new Major Lazer LP or tune in to the Panabaynian sounds of rising stars Los Rakas.
