The Soul Rebels Play at Highline Ballroom (CMJ) 10/19/12

It’s that time of year where the CMJ Music Marathon hits New York City for it’s annual event. Though I am an Ohioan transplanted and living in NYC, I have a huge affinity for funk and soul. This year on Friday October 19th, 2012 you can experience the blending sounds of Mardi Gras funk, soul, R&B and pop by the eight-piece brass ensemble straight from New Orleans known as The Soul Rebels.

This show is not to be missed. They will perform songs from their first international album, Unlock Your Mind, which was released in January of 2012 on Rounder Records. The Soul Rebels do a mean funky cover of “Sweet Dreams” originally by British pop music duo Eurythmics. Another great tune by The Soul Rebels is “504” that is sure to get the crowd dancing. As The Soul Rebels say “Everybody get up on the floor and enjoy yourself!” and check out their CMJ showcase on Friday October 19th, 2012 at The Highline Ballroom.
