About Give a Beat
Did you know that the United States has the highest rate of incarceration in the world and approximately 68% of people are rearrested within three years of release? The system is complex, but music can be one solution.

Give a Beat’s programs address the continuum of incarceration by using music as a catalyst for change. Through our Youth Music Production and DJ Program, Prison Electronic Music Program, “On a New Track” Reentry Mentoring Program, and Give a Beat Records, we engage the music industry to help widen pathways for people to thrive, reduce recidivism, encourage empathy, and unite to contribute to the larger transformation of the criminal justice system.

About Fair Chances
This month, we initiated an “I Give a Beat for Fair Chances” fundraising campaign to advocate for increased arts programming in prisons and juvenile halls to promote healing, along with reducing barriers for reentry. People reentering society face dense barriers, such as inadequate access to jobs, housing, employment, educational opportunities, and much more, giving a glimpse as to why recidivism rates are so high.

By advocating for fair chances, we advocate for equity and justice. We must dismantle the barriers that prevent individuals from rebuilding their lives after incarceration.
