| Nobody gave sOuL permission to make his brand of Hip-Hop, and he likes it this way. His sophomore release “The Unspoken Word” is a 7 track EP that finds a beat against the grain. Sparked by the tragic events of a murdered transit rider by transit police in his home town of Oakland Ca; the need to escape the expected rap narrative appeared, and The Unspoken Word was born. Pulsating from the opening track’s “Copx” – a psychedelic trip-hop song that expresses lyrics of outrage while searching for justice, to the nostalgic 70’s infused “Go Back” that longs for simpler times and illusions of the past. On tracks such as “Black Mahogany Frost” finds sOuL flipping words and images traveling deeper in a world all his own “b4 garbage men come come clean the streets/pickin up pieces of dreams and pieces of me/across them cold kitchen floors on them bended knees/just hope my kids wait to discover the scene” This album succeeds in being as outwardly political as it is introspective and futuristic, because of this it is a must listen for Hip-Hop music lovers everywhere!
