Bring God Said Give ‘Em Drum Machines On Demand
Detroit’s Techno Story Reaches a Crucial Moment — Support God Said Give ’Em Drum Machines
Washington Hill Pictures has launched a crowdfunding campaign to bring the Detroit Techno documentary God Said Give ’Em Drum Machines to streaming platforms, celebrating the innovators who shaped one of the world’s most influential music movements.
God Said Give ’Em Drum Machines chronicles the groundbreaking journey of Detroit’s Black Techno pioneers and their lasting global impact. Directed by Detroit native Kristian R. Hill and produced by Jennifer Washington, the film explores how visionary artists transformed industrial decline and creative adversity into a new sound that reshaped electronic music worldwide. The documentary marks the first feature-length release from Washington Hill Pictures, a Detroit-rooted independent production company.
Funds raised through the campaign will go toward completing post-production, securing music licensing, and distributing the film to global audiences. The initiative will also help establish a digital archive preserving interviews, rare footage, and history from Detroit’s vibrant dance music community.
Supporters can gain access to exclusive rewards including limited-edition signed books documenting Detroit’s musical journey, GSGEDM: The Score—a soundtrack expansion of the film’s Techno compositions—first-run DVD copies of the documentary, GSGEDM posters, producer credits, and invitations to virtual events with the filmmaking team.
Director Kristian R. Hill shared:
“This film is a megaphone for Black innovation. Detroit’s artists changed music forever, but their voices are at risk of being drowned out by government defunding and corporate agendas. We’re making this project to help carry their legacy forward—to keep the truth, the art, and the history alive, told by the people who lived it. When you support this campaign, you’re helping that story move forward—not just for Detroit, but for Black creativity everywhere.”
The GSGEDM team invites music lovers, cultural leaders, and fans around the world to help share and support this story, ensuring Detroit’s legacy continues to inspire future generations.
