Sweater Funk has always shown our love and appreciation to the late great Luther Vandross. From his 1st solo career recording for Cotillion, to his collaborations with Italian disco outfit Change to his 80 solo efforts and collaborations with Marcus Miller. He’s been in the mix at our parties since the beginning. We started throwing Luther tribute nights years ago and we are long over due to bring it back into the lineup.

For this party, we will be featuring a 2 hour set of Luther’s early career recordings including his Bowie era, his recordings on Cotillion, his Italian disco era and lots of killer jams from his 80s solo career as a singer and producer and tunes from his partner in crime, Marcus Miller. Plus we’ve tracked down some early cuts from his group Listen My Brother with whom he performed with for his work on Sesame Street, tracks from the Broadway Musical The Wiz and killer cuts featuring Luther’s team of background singers he lead for recording sessions.

It’s going to be a night of love and positivity for a musician that deserves recognition and appreciation, the great Luther Vandross.
