After a brief hiatus as we fixed our sound system we are back!

Talking about music over coffee that meant alot to us & with his birthday recently passing we naturally began to talk about Dilla. More specifically this album, it’s raw, it re-interprets music that has spawned interest into other artists & labels. It’s rhythms & sampling techniques are divinely unique and have become critical to the evolution of modern hip-hop. The album is truly art at it’s finest.

‘Donuts’ marks the final studio album by J Dilla, released on February 7, 2006 – just three days before his passing. Created largely while he was hospitalized with a rare blood disease and lupus, the album reflects both the urgency and depth of the time. This piece of work redefined sample-based beat making, creating emotion without lyrics. ‘Donuts’ is widely regarded as a masterpiece that solidified J Dilla’s legacy. We will be listening to this album front-to-back on our Hi-Fi Sound System at the peak of the evening.

We know we had to do this album proper to the best of our abilities. So we got the homies from Brainstory playing a full band live-jazz set where they will be playing a couple covers of classic Dilla joints & beautiful tunes to close the night out.

We will also have the best Payray along with other special guests spinning Dilla samples, beats & affliated records bumping on the system all afternoon long.
