Gengis Don is a dynamic force in today’s music scene, known for his innovative approach as a drummer, producer, songwriter, and engineer. A Brooklyn native, Gengis Don’s sound is a reflection of his deep roots in Hip Hop combined with his extensive study of jazz and improvisational music. Graduating at the top of his class from the School of Hip Hop, he has become a true architect of sound, crafting music that resonates with the pulse of modern society while staying true to the essence of groove and rhythm. Often described as the love child of Jazz and Boom Bap, Gengis Don’s music is both a tribute to his influences and a bold statement of his own artistry. Growing up, he was inspired by the legendary New York sounds of artists like 50 Cent, Ja Rule, Ashanti, Notorious B.I.G., Fat Joe, Nas, and Jay Z. These influences are unmistakable in his gritty, unapologetically raw drumming style, which has become a hallmark of his work. Despite his young age—just 28—Gengis Don has already collaborated with some of the most respected names in the music industry. His versatility and talent have led him to work with a diverse array of artists, including Solange, Bilal, ASAP Ferg, Standing on the Corner, Klein, keiyaA, Melanie Charles, Anna Wise, Mavi, Braxton Cook, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Marquis Hill, Christopher McBride, Pink Siifu, Phoelix and many others. Through these collaborations, Gengis has cemented his reputation as a creator of music that is not only innovative and fresh but also deeply rooted in the rich traditions of Hip Hop and Jazz. As the driving force behind Gengis Don & The Empire, he continues to push boundaries, creating music that speaks to today’s social climate while honoring the timeless grooves that have shaped him.
