Certain names need little introduction here in Detroit, Michigan. Nick Speed, Dez Andrés and Eddie Logix are three such names. On Saturday, March 21st, Detroit native rapper, producer and DJ Nick Speed brings a new joint to Moondog—Stepping Into Tomorrow—an evening of music featuring live beat production as well as uncovered archival work—collages, sketches and stems from years of studio late nights.

Years before Speed’s beats began making their way around the world via 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Danny Brown, Talib Kweli and Guilty Simpson (to name but a few), Speed was a musically-minded teenager in the ’90s, growing up in Detroit’s Dexter Linwood area, just down the street from Moondog Café. We’re honored to welcome Nick back to the block for an evening showcasing his decades of dedication to the expansion of Detroit rap and hip hop. “Stepping Into Tomorrow,” a title many heads recognize from the Donald Byrd discography, alludes to the process of releasing work in order to move forward into new creative possibilities.

On this occasion, Speed invites two of Detroit’s finest—world-renowned artist and producer Dez Andrés and prolific producer, DJ and organizer Eddie Logix–to join him in peeling back a few layers of their practice in music-making. Whatever you do, don’t miss it!
