Born, raised and still residing in North Carolina, 9th Wonder is the ‘production’ third of the state’s biggest hip hop export, Little Brother. Heavily informed by the golden era producers, the soulful warmth of his production technique has seen him work with underground stars like Murs and Jean Grae as well as producing for US pop royalty like Jay Z and Destiny’s Child. Nowadays, 9th Wonder lectures on hip hop history with Christopher ‘Play’ Martin (From Kid’n’Play) at North Carolina Central University. He also doesn’t go anyway without his crew The True School Movement so this Headphone Highlights is presented by 9th himself alongside three True School DJs, Cuzzin B, DJ Face and Jay Clip. Opening up with one of the most surprising selections we’ve witnessed in recent times, this show nevertheless rolls into some of the hip hop classics that have been important to 9th and his crew over the years…
