13 Ways to Celebrate Detroit on 313 Day
Happy 313 Day! The GSGEDM project is driven to change the perception of Detroit. To honor this goal, our team has come up with a list of 13 ways for y’all to celebrate Detroit on 313 Day! While some of these items on the list require you to be in Detroit, many of them can be done from the comfort of your own home. Check out some of our team’s favorite ways to celebrate the D on this special day!
1. Pay a visit to the DIA to experience some of Detroit’s amazing art!
Pay a visit to the DIA and see some of Detroit’s amazing art exhibits. While you’re there, check out our Director, Kristian Hill’s screening ‘Old Westside.’ More info can be found here:

2. Listen to Some Detroit Techno Classics

3. Visit Spectacles Detroit
Spectacles Detroit is a lovely Detroit-themed boutique located in Greektown. The store is run by Zana Smith, who you may remember from Episode 05 of GSGEDM Behind-the-Scenes podcast. You can find more info at this link:

4. Say Nice Things About Detroit
This is another one y’all can do from anywhere! Say nice things about Detroit! We encourage y’all to share some of your own Detroit favorites or some of your favorite Detroit stories today. 5. Stop By the Detroit Music Center
The Detroit Music Center is Detroit’s largest record shop and has been around since 1980. This stop is our film composer Reggie’s personal favorite. Celebrate Detroit by copping some fresh Detroit original’s on vinyl. Check out their website for more info:
6. Try Out Dilla’s Delights
Dilla’s Delights is a little bakery located just outside of Comerica Park and is run by J. Dilla’s family. If you aren’t familiar, J. Dilla is a famous Detroit native producer and rapper that heavily influenced hip/hop and music production. This spunky bakery has some yummy treats brought to you by Dilla’s Uncle and his two daughters who aim to remember his legacy. You can check out some of Dilla’s music here:

7. Support Detroit Will Breathe
Check out Detroit Will Breathe and consider donating to them! This organization does some amazing work fighting against police brutality and advocating for racial equality. All funds received support their work and aid with their legal fund. Check out their website for more info:

8. Visit the Detroit Historical Museum
What better way is there to celebrate Detroit than going to the Detroit Historical Museum to get educated on some of the city’s history? Check out the DHM here:

9. Visit Eastern Market & Murals in the Market
First off we’ve got GSGEDM Impact Producer Chris’ favorite, Eastern Market. Luckily enough, this year 313 Day falls on a Saturday which just so happens to be the same day that Eastern Market is open and full of food vendors and artists. The market is one of the most vibrant spots in the city, not only for the wide array of food selection, but also for its famous murals. If you’re in Detroit today, you definitely want to stop by this first spot! Check it out here:

10. Munch at Nikki’s Pizza
This family-run restaurant is located in Greektown and has some of the best Detroit-style pizza you can get. This spot was even a favorite hangout during high school skip days for our Producer Jennifer. Go celebrate Detroit by supporting some local business while trying out a Detroit classic! 11. Take a Trip to the Motown Museum
