12th ANNUAL ALLIED MEDIA CONFERENCE
June 17 – 20 | Wayne State University + Midtown Venues
Held every summer in Detroit, the Allied Media Conference (AMC) draws over 1,000 artists, media-makers, technologists, and activists from across the U.S. and beyond to explore how media and communications can be used for positive community transformation. Conference participants spend 3 days in hands-on workshops, film screenings, panel discussions and strategy sessions.
Topics of workshops at AMC2010 include: “Mobile Phone Journalism,” “Investigative Reporting,” “How to Build A Computer from Recycled Parts,” “Printmaking,” “Beatmaking,” “Media Strategies to Expand Access for Disabled People,” and over a hundred other sessions. The conference features a vibrant vendor exhibition area and a media lab with ongoing technology and art projects.
Renowned Detroit performers, Invincible and Monica Blaire will host a strategy session at AMC2010 on “Creating a Music-based Economy for Detroit’s Future.” A series of nightly live music events will submerge visitors into the native cultural scene of downtown Detroit, providing an opportunity to
experience some of the city’s rising talent, as well as special guests from across the country.

2nd ANNUAL US SOCIAL FORUM
June 22 – 26 | Cobo Conference Center + Downtown Venues
The US Social Forum (USSF) is a movement building process. It is not a conference but it is a space to come up with the peoples’ solutions to the economic and ecological crisis.
The gathering in Atlanta in June 2007 had over 12,000 people come together in the belief that “Another World Was Possible!”
Movement forces from all over the country took advantage of the opportunity to celebrate, organize, teach, debate and otherwise contribute to a growing sense that “Another U.S. Is Necessary!” The USSF made clear our need for greater convergence among progressives and the left in this country and to begin to articular our vision for “Another World.”
The purpose of the USSF is to effectively and affirmatively articulate the USSF are noneo-liberalism abroad and here in the US is not the solution. The USSF marks a fierce resistance movement for social, racial, gender, and Detroiters unable to findnumber of unemployed people in all 50 states for nearly four years. Thousands of living wage jobs have been permanently lost in the automotive industry and related sectors. Some think that it will take at least until 2025 for
Michigan to recover from the economic collapse and social dislocation. Over 17,000 people are already registered to attend USSF 2010!

9th ANNUAL HIP HOP CONGRESS NATIONAL CONFERENCE
June 26 – 28 | University of Michigan – Detroit Center
The Hip Hop Congress will host its 9th Annual National Conference sponsored by the Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs @ University of Michigan Detroit Center this year immediately following the U.S. Social Forum and Allied Media Conference in a partnership to encourage attendance from interested parties from throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, South Africa, Brazil and more.
HHC is an organization run by active young people who understand the societal pressures of today’s youth. The HHC uses Hip Hop to inspire social and civic action and stimulate individual creativity. Since its inception, HHC has expanded around the world, strengthening youth culture and creating powerful connections across our globe. Hip Hop Congress advocates a vision of Hip Hop culture broader than the stereotypes often seen on popular TV and Radio. Hip Hop Congress (HHC) provides the Hip Hop Generation and the Post Hip Hop Generation with the tools, resources and opportunities to make social, economic and political change on a local, regional, national and international level.

In partnership with Shameless Plug Entertainment and Fusicology.com, the official conference concert will be headlined by rising Hip Hop superstar Jay Electronica (New Orleans) and Detroit’s own Slum Village who will perform at the legendary Detroit Hip Hop spot, St. Andrews Hall on the evening of Saturday, June 26. Other artists performing include Guilty Simpson, OneBeLo, 5ELA, DJ House Shoes and more. Closing night on Sunday, June 27 will feature a Detroit-style MC battle at another historical Hip Hop venue, Alvin’s.
