06:00 PM - 11:00 pm

There isn’t much to be said that hasn’t already been said about this album, while at the same time there is not enough words to explain how meaningful this album is to our culture & how much it changed music forever.

In 1984, Prince stood at a creative crossroads. Already a star from albums such as 1999, he was determined to build something larger than a hit record—an artistic universe that fused music, film, fashion, mythology, and autobiography. The result was Purple Rain, released with his band, The Revolution, on June 25th. The album served as both a soundtrack and a declaration of artistic ambition.

The album’s success was unprecedented. Combined with the film of the same name, Purple Rain became a defining artifact of the 1980s, earning major awards, topping charts around the world, and cementing Prince’s place among music’s most visionary artists.

We will be listening to the album front-to-back on our Hi-Fi Sound System at the peak of our evening.

This listening session is co-presented by modern-funk pioneer DāM FunK where he will present on a curated vinyl experience centered around musical storytelling, & album discussion. Also referred to as “The Ambassador of Boogie Funk,” a title that reflected not only his music but his role as a cultural bridge between generations of funk. A conversation on the timelessness of funk music and the relationships in between, & of course Prince.

Each ticket includes a complimentary album-inspired cocktail presented by Dolores.
